Dan likes a group called KoRn, with a backwards R, but I don’t have a backwards R on my keyboard. I am not 100% sure how the group got it’s name, but I imagine they like the vegetable corn, and wanted to be unique. Usually, KoRn is something that Dan listens to on his own. The music just isn’t to my taste.
Well, I was listening to music at work. I had accidentally hit the random button, but I just rolled with it. The iPod hadn’t picked anything I wasn’t in the mood to listen to yet. Soon, KoRn songs were coming up randomly. The first song that came up, Twisted Transistor, was relatively normal. But the second song really made me appreciate them a little more. I mean, any group that can sell an album with one of the singers sounding like they are hocking up a phlegm ball, has to have some talent. Who wouldn’t want to hear intro music, some singing, then “hoooooooock”? And it isn’t like that is the only song that has the phlegm ball hocks in it. Of course, the Metallica song that came on after that almost sounded like soft rock. By the third song, When Will This End?, I cut it off when they kept repeating “When will this ennnnnnnnnnnnnnd?” Right now is good, I thought to myself. For the record, this song is 11 minutes and I cut it off at about the two minute mark. I am not sure, but I think they just repeat that for the next 9 minutes.
Of course, when I told Dan about this, first he wanted to know what the song was. Of course, I had accidentally turned off my iPod trying to go back and find the title for this post. Then he said, “Are you sure it wasn’t a fuck in disguise? Sometimes their fucks sound like hocks.” I told him I was pretty sure. I have heard them hock “fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccck” and this definately sounds like “hoooooooooooooooooooock”. Of course, it made him run to his KoRn collection to listen. (Good thing we were on IM with this converation.) I guess it could have been a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Still sounds like someone hocking phlegm to me.
And I probably still won’t listen to them on a regular basis.
“relatively normal”…
A guy liking KoRn would be a total dealbreaker with me… but then, you seem to have forgiven Dan for it… He must have a lot of good qualities..
I love Korn, I really like the hocking noise he does. As far as I know no one else can make that sound LOL. As much as I Like them though I think I only have 2 songs on my ipod because its just not good work music. Tell Dan my favorite song they do is a cover of Word Up.
I have never listened to an entire KoRn song myself….
You’re not the only one that just can’t get into them
ARRRRRREE YOOOUUUU RRREEEAADYYYY!!!
Imagine my surprise when I saw one of my favorite groups on YOUR site!!! Dan rocks! Hubs can’t stand my music! Tell Dan that sometimes I feel like ” a freak on a leash!”
Dutchy - He became a fan well after we were married. But he does listen when I am not around, otherwise I have to put in a Celine Dion album to balance everything out.
Mel - Dan is on a quest to find the song I didn’t have the title for. He thinks it may have been Disturbed instead.
Slick - Yeah, sometimes I have to turn them off in the middle of the song. And I hate stopping a song in the middle.
MetalMom - I thought you would like KoRn.
Dan probably feels like a freak on a leash at times too. LOL
I like Twisted Transistor, I also like their remake of “Word Up”. That’s it for my Korn hit list.
I like corn, but I don’t think that I would like Korn.
I think I can only put up with about two Korn songs. So I know what you mean. But my husband loves them too. We call them KoRn with a K and a backwards R.
