One of these days, I plan to take some self-portraits. I was looking at some pictures and I realize I don’t really have a lot of myself, not that I need pictures of myself. I just have been wanting to take some pictures, and needed a new subject, besides cats, dogs, and the husband. I mean, Dan hates his picture taken anyway. I have actually found myself wishing I lived closer to my buddy, Finn, because I think she could do some awesome portraits of me.
I also have been thinking of expressions. First off, I am not a great actress. And it takes a lot longer than 10 seconds for me to relax. And then when I do get relaxed, and in position, I have to hit the button and then try to do it all again. I have been thinking black and white, because there’s something beautiful about black and white photos. And sure, you can take a program like The Gimp, and remove the color, but to me, it always looks different. I think there is something a little unforgiving about black and white also, as it will pick up some of the things you might not see in a color photograph. I have a feeling that a lot of these self portraits will look fake and forced though. I will share with you when I finally decide to take them. (And I have been thinking about doing this for a month now, so don’t expect it anytime soon.)
So, for now, here are the pictures I promised you of our trip to Lafayette a few weekends ago.

One of the pictures Dan took of me, which I still don’t like so much in large format. I think he needs to hold the camera higher:

I would love to take some portraits of you! And you’re right, he does need to hold the camera higher. Try it slightly (and I mean slightly) above you.
My self portraits were taken with a tripod, sitting on the floor. The best ones happened when I just gave up and started fooling around. You just have to keep trying. Patience…
Oh I’m with finn. Take TONS!!!
Finn - In recent years, Dan has been hesitant to take pictures, so I should be glad he took these.
He says, “I take the pictures in my head.” (insert eye rolling here)
Shortie - I will!

I disagree. B&W is one of the most beautiful (and forgiving mediums). You don’t see all the variance in skin tone in a b&w.
Plus, it’s timeless. If I lived closer I would be all over this (shooting your image)—I studied photography in college.
I think that is a lovely picture of you!
Alot of towns like Lafayette all across the Midwest….
*pixie* - I like the timelessness of B&W as well, but I still think I will need to exfoliate the dry skin off my face. But then again, you are right that they red in my face won’t show as much.
VP - Thanks!
Buffalodickdy - There are. I think they are called factory towns.
