Well, my mom will be happy to know we have our taxes done. A day early too!
In the decade plus some Dan and I have been married, Dan has done our taxes. I would take them someplace if I was doing them. Math and I don’t get along. Every year, we end up doing them at the last minute, then driving them to the post office. Every year, I mention it in February that Dan needs to do taxes, but he puts it off, because he doesn’t like the idea of paying. He also doesn’t like the idea of giving the government a free loan. But, he pretty much gives them the 4 extra months of free loan because he always anticipates paying. NOOOOOOOO! We can’t just wait until the 14th to drop it in the mailbox if we found out we owed. That wouldn’t be right. Plus, it would break an over the decade plus some years tradition.
Last night, I asked my Canadian friend if Canada had to do their taxes because they were due tomorrow like Dan did. He said, “No. We have until the 30th. And then we only have to file if we owe the government.” That surprised me. But the next part shocked me even more. “Some people can’t be bothered to file for their refunds for years.” Whaaaaat? If the government owes me money back, I want my money back! Why would someone not be bothered to get their money. That seems kind of silly to me!
Surely, he jests.
I’ve already gotten and spent the $4,001 that the feds owed me a month ago. I take mine to a CPA, I’m much too stupid to do my own taxes. I am an engineer that’s really bad at math, which probably explains why I’m not even a real engineer, I just play one on TV.
We had ours done last week, we always have them hold back too much because we dont want to pay!
The Canadian does not know these people, he ALWAYS filed for his refund
We always do our taxes as soon as we get all of our W-2s, no matter if we owe or are getting a refund. I asked my hubby why he thinks people wait so long and he said it is because people don’t want to pay until the last minute. But me, I would want to pay and get it over with if I owed because it would just hang over my head if I didn’t. Good thing for us though we have not had to pay since we have been together.
I fill my tax forms out with a crayon— not even in the lines— then I shove them into an envelope, seal the lumpy package with duct tape and send that in using two cent stamps.
They don’t like me very much.
My wife has worked in tax offices off and on for 15years. She helps friends and relatives do theirs. Guess who gets done last every year? Us!!!
Nope, it’s true! Taxes due on the 30th, and only if you owe them. You can take your sweet time if they owe you, but, I am pretty sure that you are still supposed to file eventually.
So, I have an extra 15 days to procrastinate….wheeee!
