Friday morning started with a chicken looking in from my window:

And ended with an orange sky and a full arch rainbow:

That shone through, even though thunder and lightening filled the sky:

But I don’t have a picture of the thunder and lightening. Believe me when I say, these pictures don’t do that night justice.
Every day we have had a storm, except Sunday which was beautiful to look at but hot and humid and not my type of weather at all. Then again, I am going to stand by my philosophy that guys dig pasty white girls. It is better than sunburnt red girls you can’t touch.
Last night was the worst. The storm pretty much started when I got home. It let up for a short bit, and then seemed to come back again from the east. I have heard people say storms from the east are worse than storms from the west, the direction they normally come from. This one moved in quickly. I turned off my computer as lightening strobed the sky and thunder cracked overhead. Water poured from the sky, from off the roof, like someone turned off a faucet. Then we heard hail or debris hitting the window (I say hail, Dan disagrees) so we went into the closet. Miss Britt’s recent Iowa trip always flirts through my mind when we have to go to the closet. Five minutes later the storm was over.
Today, bright and sunny again. We will see what this evening brings.
I know weather isn’t interesting to a lot of people, but in the ten years I have lived in Indiana, these are probably some of the worst storms we have seen. We have had flooding. People have died. It makes me think of how much the weather is like life.
Because no matter how bad it gets, the sunny days will return.
I hate that people are afraid of the weather now.
But I understand it.
Glad you guys are safe!
I can’t say I am afraid of it. But I won’t deny that I don’t think about what the weather can do.
Beautiful pictures. Well, except for the chicken.
Living in SoFla one gets used to afternoon thunderstorms in the summer. Yes, some spawn tornadoes, but not usually of the magnitude that you get in your area. We get hurricanes instead!
I actually look forward to the thunderstorms. I find it comforting in a way. As long as I don’t have to drive in it.
Those are beautiful pictures. And this is a beautiful post.
Oh I feel you! Did you see the tornado I caught on video? Everyone I’ve talked to has said they’ve never seen a storm like that in their life. Very scary!
Your photos are beautiful!
I tell you the weather in the mid west has been insane! My best friend is in Micigan and they had a HUGE storm that came through with tornado type winds that knowcked down tons of trees and left thousands without power for days. Add all that to the crazy heat on the East Coast and the rains down south and there is only one conclusion…Mother Nature is throughly ticked off.
This year has had the worst weather I’ve seen in my 35 years on this planet. The flooding we’re having around here is unbelievable. Placed that nobody ever thought would have water are several feet under water now. I’m wondering if I need flood insurance.
Finn – People don’t seem to realize any state can get tornados. Even Alaska. Just the tornado belt gets them more. And maybe worse.
Shelli – Thanks!
BlondeBlogger – I saw it!
VP – I heard that Michigan gets a lot of straight winds also, which are very damaging.
Nobody – I heard that your state is really getting hit really hard by all this water. We have had it to some degree, but I dont’ think it has been as bad. It’s amazing and very sad for the people who lose their homes to all the flooding.
Because no matter how bad it gets, the sunny days will return.
I love this so much!!!
I love guineas! We used to have some until a hawk got hungry. they are neat birds!
that rainbow pic is neat too!
